The Flight

It was only the 15th of December and I had to leave to the Philippines! At 10:00 pm we had to go to the airport. My flight was at 12:30 in the morning on the 17th. When we got to the airport the place was swarming with people. My mom and dad were checking in our bags and my little sister was sleeping but, she looked dead. My big sister and I were watching a movie that that was playing on the TV in the airport. When they were done with the check in bags we had to go and walk all the way to the immigration. It took so long for the guy to check and stamp our passports. I was just standing there idly waiting for the man to finish with our passports.

Then we had to walk all the way to the pre-departure area. When we got on the plane it was a really tiring flight. My mom, my 2 sisters and I slept through the whole flight. When we got to Manila, the capital of the Philippines it was 7:30 am. It took us a long time to finish fixing our luggage. We had breakfast at a coffee shop in the airport at around 8:00. While we were eating I asked my mom what time was our flight to Cagayan de oro. Cagayan de oro is the city where I was born in. My mom answered “It’s at 11:00.” We had 3 hours until our next flight! We left the coffee shop at around 8:15. We were so bored that we went upstairs to see if there was anything else to do. My mom went to a restaurant to eat because she didn’t eat that much in the coffee shop.

The name of the restaurant was Jolibee. We ordered 2, rice and beef tappa breakfast packets. All of that food was overwhelming. It was delicious! After we ate we went into the airport and by 8:45 we were in the pre-departure area. We still had to wait for 2 hours and 15 minutes. There was a flight that was boarding at around 9:00-9:30 in the same area where my flight was going board. The plane that I was going to take wasn’t there yet. When it was time to go on the plane everybody made a really long line. I fell asleep right before we were supposed to go up in the air. When I woke up we were already landing. When we got into the airport my mom told my sisters and me to go into my uncle’s car and wait for her there. When we were driving to my house I realized the sky in Cagayan de oro was bluer and cleaner than the sky in Jakarta.

The Bintaro Lama Trip

It took so long to get to the Bintaro kampung. We passed many places and Ms. Whitley told us about the river we passed. We saw someone in the river, I think he was fishing. When we got there it was to stinky.

First we went to the water station. We were entered in a home where they teach the children about water and ways to use it. They showed us a poster of when to wash your hands. It was a really nice poster. There were some women in green shirts and they were the people who were helping in the water cleaning.

Then we went to the fourth station and in the fourth station they were cleaning the water by adding PUR to the water. After they added the PUR they put the water on top of this cloth and put the cloth on top of a pitcher. The water slowly went down into the pitcher and the water was so transparent it looked like you could drink it.

After that we went to the sixth station. In that station they showed us two ways to clean water, one way was to add a kind of tablet that was called aquataps. Aquataps was used to clean flood water. Another way was to add a few drops of a kind of liquid that cleaned the river water. We got a few brochures about the aquataps and the other cleaning liquid.

I think that I am so lucky to have a nice home and not having to worry about the amount of water I get. I think the song that they taught us was very good. When we were going back to school I was thinking about the kampung and what we did in it. I felt soooo tired after the field trip. I just wanted to go straight to bed!

The Water Treatment Plant

It took an hour to get there. It was very hot when we got there. We passed a river running through the water treatment plant. There was a nice lady that came to us and gave us a tour around the water treatment plant.

The first place we went to was this big gate that run along the river. It took out all of the big pieces of trash in the river. It was a gate with big holes in it. I had a question in my head about the gate, "How much trash does the gate gather each day?"

After that we went to a place where they add Minerals to to the water. They did that to clean the water. A question I had was, " How many minerals do they add to the water?"

In the next place we went to they were adding chlorine to the water. This step was called coagulation. They did this to get flocks of dirt that was in the water. A question I had in my head was, " How big can a flock get?"

Then we went to a place where they took out the particles of the flock out of the water and put it in the waste tower. This step was called sedimentation.

After that we went to a place where they killed all of the bacteria. This step was called filtration and disinfection.

Then we went to the control room where you could see what was happening in the whole water treatment plant. It was really cool and there were so many buttons in that room.

After that we went to the lab there and looked at the river water before it was cleaned and the river water after it was cleaned. There was such a big difference! The water was so much cleaner after it was cleaned!

They were very kind to us and they gave us some water to drink. Then we watched a movie that was a cartoon and it talked about all of the thing that the water has to go through to get clean. It wasn't a boring movie, some parts were kind of funny. They gave us some souvenirs for the school. It was a long, and tiring ride back to school!

The Water Cycle

The picture above shows that evaporation is the process where water changes from a liquid into a gas and turns into water vapour.

The picture on the right shows that condensation is the opposite of evaporation. It happens when water vapour changes from a gas into a liquid.

The picture on the left shows that precipitation is the condensation in the atmosphere that falls as rain, hail, snow or dew.

The picture on the right shows that infiltration is when water goes into the soil.

The Mysterious Box

The Mysterious Box
“What’s his name?” my little sister, Noelle said.

“I don’t know,” I said. It was a really hot day. We were in the shade then. Not knowing what to name our dog.

“Maybe it should be Fluffy,” Noelle said.

“NO!” I said angrily.

It was in the middle of summer and we were in the Philippines. Noelle, my big sister, Rachel, my uncle and I were waiting for our mom because we were hungry and it was still 11:30. Then we heard a taxi coming. We saw the taxi go through the gate and I thought it was my mom. Suddenly the taxi stopped in front of our house. The door opened and my mom and grandmother came out. My grandmother was carrying all of the shopping bags but my mom, was only carrying a box and her bag.

What’s inside?” I thought. There was something sticking out of the box and it was moving.

“What’s that?” Noelle asked.

“You’ll see,” My mom said. She was putting the box down very carefully while she was talking. Suddenly a dog came out! It was long, thin and black. He was so energetic.

“Aww it’s so cute,” my sisters and I said.

Then we all started playing with him. When my little sister said, “What’s his name?”

All of us just realized that we hadn’t named the dog yet until Noelle asked that question. We were all thinking about what to name the dog when I asked if the dog was a boy or girl. My mom said it was a boy. There were suggestions like Mark and Mike and things like that. Then Rachel said she would think of names from books she has read. Then she thought about the name Max. From a book called Maximum Ride. We all thought about that name for the dog except it just didn’t sound right. We wanted to change his name but still have Max in it. We all thought of names like Max Millionaire but they just didn’t sound right. A name just popped into head. Maxie! I just shouted that name out loud and everybody heard me. We all agreed on the name Maxie. At last we got name for him! Now we can shout to our dog and say Maxie.

My Sister's Nightmare, Gretel Killen, ***

This book is the sequel to "My Sister's a Full Stop" and I also read that book. This book is about Zeke and Eppie getting stuck in their mom's nightmare. They find ghosts, draculas, haunted houses and disgusting meals. they even get turned into shoes. Are they going to escape from that nightmare or are they going to stay in their mother's thoughts forever?

I think the best part in this book is when Eppie almost marries someone named Frankenslime for $7.50.Zeke finds out that Frankenslime is the bad guy in the nightmare. I like this series but sometimes it's a little confusing.

Nancy Drew The Chocolate Covered Contest, Carolyn Keen, ****

This book is about Nancy, her friends and a group of kids called the Super Sleuths. Nancy and her friends were chaperoning. They were visiting an amusement park owned by the world-famous Royal Chocolates Company. One of her friends Bess opens a million-dollar candy wrapper in a contest. When Nancy and Bess go to the Royal Chocolates Company to collect their money and claim the prize they are told that someone else has won the contest. Then thy are accused of Cheating in the contest. Nancy and her friends finally find the truth after a near-death experience in the park's animal safari.

This book is the 151st of the series. I think the best part of this book was when Nancy, her friends and the super sleuths were in a near-death experience. They were in the safari and they were run off the road by a car going really fast. This is a really good mystery book to get your minds moving. In the beginning of the book you think you know who the bad guy is but in the end you will see who really is the bad one.

Just Disgusting, Andy Griffths, **

This book is about Andy and Danny (the illustrator) and their really disgusting stories or facts. The titles of the chapters are 101 Really Disgusting Things, Brussels Sprouts, Go to Bed!, Cake of Doom, Two Brown Blobs, Shut Up!, Fun With Andy and Danny, Deadflyella and The Story of the Very Stupid Boy and the Very Big Slug.

I didn't really have a favorite part in this book because this book had many stories and I get confused with all of the stories. I like this book because Andy says these 9 different chapters in different ways like poetry, comics, etc. This book is very disgusting in a funny way. I don't think that many people I know would really like this book. This is a new kind of book for me because it is very disgusting but fun.

My Sister's a Full Stop, Gretel Killeen, ***

This book is the sequel to, "My Sister's a Burp". The book, "My Sister's a Burp" is the sequel to, "My Sister's a Sea Slug" which I wrote about before. This book is about Zeke and Eppie stuck in story land. They meet many people like Alice in Wonderland, Robin Hood, Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet and the book worm too. He wants to eat Zeke and Eppie and keep them locked up in the book forever.

I think that the best part of the book was when Eppie got stuck in the middle of a pond with one of her legs in a crocodile's mouth. I didn't really know much about what happened before this story because I didn't read the, "My Sister's a Burp." I still like this book even if I don't know a little bit, of what happened in this series. I like this book because it has a weird kind of adventure and the people in this book always get into sticky situations. Zeke and Eppie meet many people and they saved many of their lives.

Maximum Ride, James Patterson,***

Maximum Ride is a series but I have only read 1 book of the series. The first book is called, "The Angel Experiment". This book is a little violent and I don't think that anybody under sixth grade should really read this book. I think that this is a good book for sixth/seventh and up.

This book is about Maximum Ride (Max) and her flock. Which is Fang, Iggy,Nudge,Gasman (Gazzy) and Angel. They are the results of a genetic experiment. They were still babies when they got experimented on. They have the gift to fly. In this story they are on the run from the scientists who made them. They are being followed by another species of genetic experiments, which were called Erasers. Designed by the scientists to hunt the flock down. The leader of the erasers is Ari. When Angel (the six year old of the flock) gets kidnapped by the erasers it is up to the flock to rescue her. While they are rescuing Angel, Max is faced with the question of their origins. In the end there is a more important mission for Max alone to face, SAVE THE WORLD.

I like this book because it has a lot adventure and a small touch of romance. I think the best part in this book for me is when Angel is saved from the erasers. The whole flock is flying away from the scientists (white coats) in this part of the book. Jeb (a man who helped the flock before) was shouting, "Max! Please! This was all a test! Don't you get it? You were safe here! This was only a test! You have to trust me-I'm the only one you can trust! Come back-let me explain!"This howed a lot of emotion coming out of Jeb. I would recomend this book to very few people because this book is kind of violent and I don't think that much people would like it.

Maximum Ride

James Patterson wrote the whole Maximum Ride Series. I am still in the first book of the series. Here are some things about some charactes in the book.

The main character in the book is Maximum Ride (Max). Some people think that Max would be a boy but she is actually female. Max and her family (flock) were normal humans until they got experimented on and now they are kind of like mutants. I am going to write about Max and another guy named Jeb. Jeb is a man that took care of Max and her family (flock).

Max really cares for the flock. She really shows her care for the flock on pages 295-296. They were in trouble with the cops and they were on a tree so they had to get down from the tree but still not get caught. Then she said "Get down; try to look normal. When wer'e on the ground, we'll make a run for it. If we get separated, connect up at, like, Fifty-fourth Street and Fifth Avenue.Comprende?" Max really cares about the flock.

Max has a really catchy name. On page 122 Max got to make up her own last name, Ride. Before her name was just Maximum now her name is Maximum Ride. I really like that name.

Jeb is a guy who is nice in the beggining but he seems kind of mean around the end of the book. He left the flock and made them think that he was there. But on page 114 Jeb says, "Hello Angel. I haven't seen you in a long time. I missed you kiddo." He seems nice here but he is still letting Angel be in all that pain that the other people are causing. So he is a Protagonist and an Antagonist in this book.

Max seems nice in this book but Jeb seems kind of mean. This the some info about the characters in this book but if you want to know more then get this book!

My Sister's Series, Gretel Killeen,***

My Sister's Series is about a boy named Zeke and his little sister, Eppie. This book has 3 books in it that are all connected. The titles of the stories are "My sister's Yo-yo," "My Sister's an alien" and "My Sister's a Sea slug."

In the first book Eppie gets squished to the size of a strawberry and gets stuck to Zeke's yo-yo. The story is practically about Zeke trying to get his yo-yo (with little Eppie on the yo-yo). Zeke used Eppie as a yo-yo so hard she flew up into the air (with the yo-yo).

In the next book Eppie goes into space (because of Zeke in the last book). Eppie was back to her normal size and landed on a planet called Planet Sock. She became queen of that planet and was forced to marry a really stinky fish. Until Zeke came to rescue his yo-yo. Then Zeke and Eppie got a ride home from a comet. While they were going back home they stretched really long and thin because of the speed that they were traveling back to earth.

In the last book Eppie and Zeke got sucked down a bathroom plug. when that happened they just started a whole new underwater adventure. They both go underwater and find mermaids in this war.

I like this book because it has a lot of adventure and an unpredictable ending in each book. Gretel Killeen is a really great author because she can make almost anything sound interesting. I like this series so much I am going to get the whole series and read it all!

This is all I am going to say but, if you want to know what happens in the rest of the series Go and Get It!

Earthquake

This is like the 2nd earthquake that I have experienced in Indonesia. The last earthquake I had, was really cool because I almost fell into a swimming pool.

The Natural Enviroment:
Indonesia are getting these earthquakes because we are in the Ring of Fire.

Animals give us signs about natural disasters like the one that we had. A snake came out of his hole because he might have felt the earthquake coming. It was wierd because there were like 650 kids outside and animals don' t usually come out of their hole with a lot of people outside of their hole.

Jakarta has no landslides because the land is very flat. In other places there are some lands that are not flat and could make landslides. Some places have many mountains.

People Interacting with the Enviroment:

People usually die because of things falling ong them. Maybe a building or just something above us falls. We are usually the ones that give possibilities for us to die and not the enviroment.

Hedley Hopkins, Paul Jennings,**

This book is about a boy named Hedley Hopkins who moved from England to Australia. He didn't have much friends because everybody called him a pommie. They called him that because he came from England. Hedley wanted to be part of a group in school but you had to do a dare to get in that group. His dare was to rob a grave. While robbing a grave he made 2 new friends and 1 is only in his imagination.

I like this book because it has a lot of adventure. The title is very interesting because it tells the whole story but without the details. This book had a few things I didn't like but it's still a great book. I would recommend this book to some people only.

Typhoon Morakot-Taiwan

This picture shows a house falling of the road and into the water in Taiwan. Taiwan get these typhoons and we don't because we are near the equator and Taiwan isn't near the equator. We are lucky to be near the equator. The water is very powerful so when it hit the house the house just fell sooo easily because of the pressure of the water. This shows that people don't really effct the enviroment that much.
